Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use a hot cold pack?
The Groots® Hot Cold Pack is a gel pack that you can use in two ways. For cold therapy, place the gel pack in the freezer for at least 2 hours. For heat therapy, warm the pack in the microwave for 30 seconds. This way you can easily use it as a hot compress or cold pack. Always place the gel pack in the included nylon pouch to avoid direct skin contact, and use the elastic strap to keep the compress in the right position. Limit each session to a maximum of 20 minutes.
How long does a gel pack stay warm or cold?
The Groots® gel pack provides an average of 20 to 30 minutes of effective heat or cold, depending on ambient temperature and body part. This is exactly the recommended treatment duration per session. After use, you can reheat or refreeze the gel pack.
Can I reuse the cold pack?
Yes, the Groots® cold packs are fully reusable. After use, you can simply refreeze or reheat the gel pack. The gel retains its flexibility even after repeated freezing. Clean the nylon pouch with a damp cloth. With normal use, the cold packs last for years.
What is the difference between nylon and PE pouches for a hot cold pack?
Nylon pouches are softer, thinner and feel more comfortable on the skin than PE (polyethylene) pouches. PE pouches are slightly stiffer and crinkle more during use. The Groots® Hot Cold Pack with nylon pouches therefore provides a more pleasant feel, especially during longer sessions as a hot compress or cold pack. Both variants protect the skin well from direct contact with the gel pack.
What complaints is a hot cold pack suitable for?
The Groots® Hot Cold Pack is suitable for a wide range of complaints. As a cold pack, the gel pack helps with swelling, sprains, bruises, headaches, fever and acute sports injuries. As a hot compress, the gel pack is effective for muscle pain, stiffness, menstrual cramps, back pain and rheumatism. Cold-warm compress therapy is also frequently recommended by physiotherapists for recovery after surgery or intensive training.
